Solar. The power of LOVE!

The trip to meet our supplier and packing facility was, by any standards, a crazy adventure! It was a 10hour journey to get there which saw us dodge bulls, cows, donkeys, horses and play a death defying game of chicken with countless over-loaded trucks, vans, bikes, tuk tuks, rickshaws and cars.

After a few undie changes, we arrived with white knuckles… but in one piece!

We had no idea what to expect from our visit, as up until this point, we had only ever corresponded over email. We were however, in for real a treat -  so many things were about to blow our minds. One of which we couldn’t wait to tell you about…

When we arrived at the facility
OMG!!! OMG!! OMG!!! OMG!! OMG!!! OMG!! OMG!!! OMG!! OMG!!! OMG!!

Sorry… #notactuallysorry we got just a little bit excited when we discovered that the processing of our berries is powered completely off of the grid and has been running on 100% solar power for the last two years. *Squeeeeeal*

There is a 35KW solar system on the roof, (installed in 2016) and in two months-time, the system will be upgraded to a 100KW. Currently they require no external power source and this will continue as the facility grows and expands. Our supplier is looking to secure the adjacent land to the packing facility to grow his sustainable pursuits, we will keep you updated on the progress of this.

The entire building is surrounded by lush organic produce gardens, which are run off of a bore and pumped by solar power. The gardens are tended to by a local farmer who meticulously cares for every aspect of its needs.

Whilst we were there, we grabbed some of the organic vegetables from the garden – capsicum, lettuce, radish, beetroot and carrots and we made a vegetarian picnic lunch from our mini-harvest. It was awesome!

We were also very impressed with the working conditions of the facility. It was heart-warming to hear that the extremely high standard they uphold has seen a lot of the employees work there for 10+ years. Our partners are dedicated to supporting the local communities and their families through providing stable and fair employment. It was truly comforting to see so many happy employees working with our soapberries.

We have a close relationship with our supplier and will keep you updated on the new sustainable developments in the future.
